Tinys

With the last few words, tears form in her eyes, and she starts to weep.
Conor put his arm around her, "Grandma, it's going be okay. I don't know what you two are talking about, but I'm sure it will be all right."
Just then a small voice is heard coming from the countertop just behind Grandpa's head.
"Maybe I should explain things to him."
Conor looks from Grandpa to Grandma, then back to Grandpa, wondering where the voice is coming from. Then, from behind the coffeepot, comes the smallest man Conor has ever seen.

Giants
Grandfather looks around at all the faces glowing in the ambers' dim light from the fire and starts his tale…
“It was long ago, and we, The People, lived far from here in a place called The Kingdom. We lived among and worked with Giants!”
Steven shakes his head no and buries his face in his hands, “Not the Giant story!”
...All the children are cuddled up close to their parents and very frightened, all except Steven, a non-believer in these tales of Giants. “Someday,” he says to himself, “I will go to the very edge of the forest and prove that there are no such things as GIANTS!”
...Steven has been on this quest for three days now. He feels like he is getting near the edge of the forest. Steven has been told and warned about the dangers that lie at the edge and beyond. But after all, he is 17, a man now, and he wants to see this edge and what might be out there. How could he believe all those stories of giants that lived there? He has never seen one, nor does he know of anyone who has. Perhaps the tales are told to frighten the little children so they won’t wander too far from the villages. He has heard these stories all his life. Yet no one can tell him how they got started or when, only, that long ago his people fled into this very forest to escape THE GIANTS!
“Giants indeed!” He says out loud as he trots through the dark and dense woods his people have called home for so many generations. “When I get to the edge of the forest to see for myself and find no giants, I will return to the village and tell all how I proved those old tales false. Then they will accept me as a great hunter and explorer!”

Troubles

The O’Brien family owns a huge tract of forested land located high on the Cumberland Plateau in Eastern Tennessee. These Tennessee hills and woods have inspired countless stories and even a legend or two. One of these legends is about a group of little people and, of course, a treasure. Some say things might happen to those who dare to enter these woods.
Could little people really exist? Many a story has been told of leprechauns, pixies, and fairies, but have you heard of…The Tinys?
Everyone knows they’re not real, right?
“Not an accident. What makes you think that?” Ed asks
Cecil picks up a piece of a broken wheel from the Jet crash and takes it over to his workbench, “Take a look at what I found.” He says as he holds it under a magnifier and points to a crack. “This was intentionally done by someone.”
“How do you know it’s not just a defect?” Scott questions.
“Because if you look very close, right here.” Cecil points to a small mark on one side of the crack. “You will see where a chisel was used to start the crack.”
“But that wheel is made of a hardened steel; you can’t just crack it with a hammer and a chisel,” Scott says.
“You can if you use an old safecracker’s trick, like spraying it with liquid nitrogen,” Cecil replies.
All three are silent for a moment, then Ed said softly, “If you’re right, then Conor might have been the target!”
“Conor?” Scott questions, “Where is our young Chairman?”
Conor O’Brien V is 17 and a typical high school student with a few exceptions. He recently became the largest stockholder and Chairman of the Board of Hawk Industries. He is a billionaire, and more importantly, the benefactor and protector of The Tinys.
Conor recently learned that someone is hunting for his little friends.
Now it seems he too is being hunted!
Synthetic
Sam and Ruth are out for their morning stroll when a vehicle turns the corner.
Ruth notices the blacked-out windows slowly opening. She quickly moves into position to protect Sam. “Sam, get down!” Ruth commands as she turns to help him get behind her, putting herself between him and the car.
When she turns to face the oncoming car again, her outstretched arm holds a weapon!
The window closes, and the car speeds off.
Seeing the danger has passed, Ruth simply returns Sam’s gun to his shoulder holster as she straightens his jacket.
Sam is completely taken aback, "What was that all about?"
Ruth takes his arm to continue their walk, "What?"
"The thing you did,” Sam says.
"What thing?"
"The thing you did when that vehicle passed by.”
"I saw a threat, Sam.”
“A threat? I didn’t see any threat”.
“Sam, when I saw a weapon starting to poke out of the car window, I automatically knew I needed to use your gun to protect you.”
“How did you know I had my gun with me?”
She looks at him and smiles, “Sam, you started carrying your gun right after we learned about the matching bullets.”
Sam shakes his head as they walk, “OK, so tell me, how did you learn to use a weapon?”
She thinks for a minute and announces, “My records are incomplete as to how I learned to do that.”
“You know the law states that no artificial human is allowed to be taught how to use a weapon.”
“Yes, I know that Sam, but it seems I do know how, most puzzling...”
His detective senses have peeked. He has been watching the Synthetic Ruth closely for a while now and clearly sees something different, something hidden, something possibly dangerous about his synthetic friend!

BlackHawk

“BlackHawk, what’s your position?” Lieutenant Spies’ voice on the COM link brings the recruit to a halt.
“Three klicks southwest of the enemy base, sir.”
“We picked up a mortar trail. Are you under fire?”
Lieutenant Spie had sent out what he thought was one of his best recruits and was not pleased with the results.
The Blood Eagle and Phoenix factions have been at war for over a hundred years. No one BlackHawk knew could remember what started the war or who started it. He only knew that both the Phoenix and Blood Eagle tribes came from Old Earth at one time.
